Owlmandos!

Created by the eccentric and brilliant billionaire Doctor Thurston Rheinhart, these avian heroes were raised to protect and cherish humanity. Working with Detective Jack “Bulldog” Payne and his elite Special Investigation Squad, they take to the night to battle those threats too strange, too bizarre, and too dangerous for the NYPD. Threats only the Owlmando’s can handle!
Or, at least, that’s what they were raised to believe. In truth, Jack Payne is a disgraced EX cop, drummed out for corruption. He and Doctor Rheinhart are employees of The Syndicate, a ruthless criminal organization bent on running the streets. Their arch-foes are the Shadow, a criminal Ninja clan. Unable to defeat these feared master assassins on their own terms, the Syndicate created the Owlmando’s as their very own “heroes.”

Since their debut a few months ago, the Owlmando’s have become a popular “urban legend” around New York, and have successfully thwarted The Shadow numerous times. Now they are focused on cleaning up the streets.

They are:

Jack “Bulldog” Payne
Jack Payne was a good cop who got in over his head. He got wrapped up in corrupt vice squad, and was the scape goat when the entire squad came under media attention. Despairing his future, he went to work with the Syndicate to pay off his debts, and to keep his family safe.

At first, the Owls were just another project to be guarded for the criminal syndicate, but over the years he’s become very fond of them, seeing them less as “tools” and “freaks” and more like beloved nephews. He hates lying to them about what they are really doing. Every day he swears to himself that he will tell them, but each day he keeps his mouth shut. It’s only a matter of time before something has to change.

Doctor Thurston Rheinhart
“Doc” as the Owls affectionally call his is their cold and eccentric “father.” He’s a ruthless scientist who was drummed out of academia due to his inhumane and cruel experiments. He views the Owls as his greatest creation, but views their increasing independence with alarm. His sociopathy allows him to treat them with a degree of affection and seeming concern, while at the same time arguing to the Syndicate to allow him to make a new, more obedient batch of “creatures.” He cares little for what his creations are used for, only for the joy of experimentation and discovery.

While the Owl’s believe that his frequent absences are due to his business dealings, in truth he has other labs and facilities throughout the city, creating more and more creatures to be used and sold by the Syndicate. None have yet been as successful as his Owl prototypes.

And with our characters fully made, next time we can start Turtles Owls Go Hollywood!

The Complete Transylvania Chronicles Redux

Here is the list of all my posts for my series on the  Transylvania Chronicles . The experiment didn't really pan out the way I wanted, but it was still an enjoyable and enlightening read. Hopefully other Storytellers will find these posts to be of some interest If you're a player who might play these, please note that each of these posts is full of spoilers. They were written from the point of view of a potential storyteller, so please do not read these if you are planning to play. For everyone else, here they are. Get it here I started off with the read through of Transylvania by Night. This is still an excellent resource, if perhaps overly ambitious. I wish they had focused more on a smaller area, such as Transylvania itself. Instead, the book seeks to cover the entirety of Eastern Europe, with mixed results. I'd still recommend it for anyone interested in running a Dark Ages chronicle, no matter where you wish to set it. Introduction . Chapters...
